In 1979, a need was identified for increased African American participation in the Alumni Association. To this end, alumni in the greater Columbia area met and formed the Black Caucus of the Greater USC Alumni Association. The Black Caucus name was eventually changed to the Black Alumni Council (BAC). The organization continues to develop programs and activities to stimulate the participation of black graduates. The Black Alumni Council’s overall mission continues to guide its path.

Richard T. Greener Endowment Fund
Since 1983, the Black Alumni Council has actively worked to attract bright students to the University by providing scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have excelled in school.
Richard Theodore Greener, the man for whom the scholarship is named, became the first African American to graduate from Harvard University in 1870 and was the first African American faculty member at USC in 1873.
The Black Alumni Council is always seeking to increase this overall endowment. Please be supportive of this effort so that we will be able to continue providing scholarships to the most deserving and talented youth.
The incoming freshmen who have been selected by the scholarship committee as Greener Scholars are Bethany Pearson and Hope Jackson.
The Black Alumni Council currently supports six USC students attending Carolina through the Greener Endowment.
